HANABI ~episode II~ was first released on Hamasaki Ayumi's summer single '&' on July 9th, 2003, following the trend of Ayu's previous summer singles,'A' and 'H'. It was then released on Ayu's first mini album later that year, Memorial Address, which released on December 17th, 2003.

HANABI ~episode II~ is the sequel to 'HANABI', a song that was featured on 2002's 'H' single. Both tracks were composed by Ayu and DAI, but the sequel, a gorgeous power-ballad, easily overshadows the original with its dramatic, rock-inspired sound and electric guitars. For me personally, it has quickly become one of my favourite Ayu songs.
